Large ovoid basin in enameled earthenware with a deep blue glaze, fitted with two handles. The painted decoration, Neo-Renaissance in inspiration, combines putti holding snakes in their hands with rich leafy scrollwork that unfurls across the entire body. The interior, coated with a delicately pink-flecked white enamel, offers a subtle contrast to the depth of the exterior glaze.
This basin is a particularly representative example of the production that contributed to Auguste Jean's renown.
Condition: Good state of preservation.
Signature: Signed on the reverse, under the base, in blue enamel: “Jean”.
