A graduate in art history from Paris-Sorbonne, I wrote a dissertation on Auguste JEAN, supervised by Jérémie CERMAN and supported by Jean-Luc OLIVIE. Passionate about my subject, I am continuing my research today.

Aurore CUYALA

This site is dedicated to Auguste JEAN (1829-1896), a 19th-century French ceramicist and glassmaker whose work occupies a unique place in the history of the decorative arts.

Born from research undertaken for a master's thesis at the Université Paris-Sorbonne, this project aims to provide free and open access to the information, archives, photographs, and discoveries gathered over the years regarding this artist, who was celebrated during his lifetime but is too largely unknown today.

This site is intended for decorative arts enthusiasts, collectors, researchers, museum professionals, antique dealers, art dealers, auctioneers, and students, as well as anyone curious to discover an astonishing figure of the 19th century.

Beyond the dissemination of knowledge, this site is also a tribute to Auguste JEAN. It aims to contribute to the recognition of his work, foster exchanges between enthusiasts and specialists, and serve as a reference space dedicated to one of the most original artists of his era.

My thanks go to the collectors, antique dealers, and museums that have agreed to participate by authorizing the publication, on this site, of photographs of the works they sell, have sold, or hold in their collections.
