Tripod vase in translucent amber-brown smoked blown glass. The shape features three undulating "ribs," hot-worked with tongs, extending from the base to the neck. Three "tears" of glass with gilded metallic reflections, also hot-applied, appear to flow from the neck, which is itself stretched with tongs. The body is adorned with a gilded and silvered Japonisant decoration with a few rare touches of colored enamel. It consists of butterflies and flowering branches, evoking the aesthetics of Japanese prints. The decoration, deliberately partial, leaves large unadorned glass spaces, highlighting the transparency, the nuances of the material, and its organic nature.
Several vases by Auguste Jean adopt this same form, but each is distinguished by the color of the glass and the composition of its enameled decoration. These variations make each piece a truly singular work. The rarity of this example lies particularly in its predominantly gilded and silvered decoration, which distinguishes it from the usually polychrome decorations.
Condition: Good condition.
Signature: Presence of a hot-applied glass stamp under the base: "A Jean".
