Important flattened vase in the shape of a gourd resting on a circular base, in translucent smoky blown glass, green for the body and pink for certain added elements. Several elements are hot-worked, particularly the base, the neck, and the "tears" that emerge from it and extend in drips over the body, accentuating the organic character of the shape.
The surface is enlivened by a rich polychrome enameled decoration with Japanese inspiration, combining flowers and aquatic plants with two carp. Gilded highlights and metallic effects further enrich the composition, lending this work a particularly precious and refined character.
Several vases by Auguste Jean adopt this same shape, but each is distinguished by the color of the glass and the composition of its enameled decoration. These variations make each piece a truly unique work.
Condition: Good condition.
Signature: Signed on the reverse, under the base, in red-brown enamel: "A Jean."
