Tripod globular vase in translucent amethyst pink blown glass, with metallic reflections and enhanced with gilded accents. The form is particularly animated by significant hot glasswork: the neck is stretched with pliers, while each of the three feet extends into a thin undulating "rib" that rises to the neck. The body is also punctuated by several glass protuberances, with irregular shapes, that rhythm its surface and give it an organic and almost sculptural appearance.
The vase features a rich polychrome enameled decoration of Japanese inspiration, composed of vegetal and floral motifs interspersed with ribbons containing geometric ornaments evoking the patterns of traditional Japanese textiles. One of the ribbons features a pseudo-calligraphy, composed of signs imitating the appearance of Japanese kanji without constituting a real script. This process contributes to the Japanese aesthetic of the work and demonstrates Auguste Jean's use of a graphic vocabulary intended as much to evoke a Far Eastern imagination as to faithfully reproduce his models.
Several vases of comparable form are known today, testifying to Auguste Jean's variation of the same model in different colors, decorations, and material treatments.
Condition: Good condition. A few chips.
Signature: Signed under the base in red enamel "AJean". Presence of a rectangular label: "n° 4253 / 105".
