Quadripod flattened pear-shaped vase, in translucent blue blown glass. The form is animated by several hot-worked elements: the base, the neck stretched with pincers, and the "tears" that emerge and flow over the body, accentuating the organic nature of the material.
The surface is adorned with a rich polychrome enamel decoration of Japanese inspiration. On one side, two scalloped medallions interlock, one circular, the other teardrop-shaped with an almost opaque red background. They feature compositions of leafy and flowering branches, animated respectively by a bird in flight and a bird perched on a branch. The reverse side presents a more free decoration combining flowering branches, flowers, and butterflies. The composition and treatment of the motifs directly evoke the aesthetic of Japanese prints, widely disseminated in Europe in the 19th century. Gilded highlights and metallic effects enrich the whole and accentuate the play of light on the glass.
Several vases of comparable shape are known today, of varying dimensions. However, they are consistently distinguished by the color of the glass and the composition of their enameled decoration, making each example a unique work.
Condition: Good condition
Signature: Signed on the reverse, under the base, in red enamel: "AJean".
