A large, pear-shaped tripod vase made of translucent blown glass in a deep blue hue. The glass has been extensively hot-worked, giving the vase an organic quality: three pinched legs, floral cabochons, a sinuous neck from which glass “tears” seem to flow, and a winged insect in relief, perched at the top as if suspended in flight.

The body features, on all three sides, large indentations with deep cavities that connect inside the vase itself. The polychrome enamel decoration, accented with extensive gilding, employs a Japanese-inspired motif consisting of flowering branches and ribbons adorned with floral and geometric patterns reminiscent of traditional Japanese textiles, enriched with animal figures—a reptile, a wasp, a snake, and a mouse—scattered throughout the composition.

The knotted silhouette of this unique vase is reminiscent of furoshiki, the Japanese art of folding fabric around a single knot—here reimagined in glass.

Signature: Signed on the reverse, under the base, in enamel: "A. Jean".
