Small globular tripod vase in translucent violet-pink blown glass. Several elements are hot-worked and applied: the base, the finial, and the glass "tears" arranged on the body, which animate the object's surface and accentuate its organic character.
The vase features a rich polychrome enamel decoration of Japanese inspiration, composed of ribbons and cartouches containing floral and geometric motifs reminiscent of traditional Japanese textile designs. Numerous gilded highlights and metallic effects enrich the composition and emphasize the different elements of the decoration.
Its silhouette and unique shape evoke the furoshiki hitotsu-musubi, a Japanese technique of folding and wrapping fabric using complex folds and a single knot. Several known vases by Auguste Jean adopt this same form, but each is distinguished by the color of the glass and the composition of its enameled decoration.
