Shortly before or in the year 1881, acquired by the Musée des Arts et Métiers for 50 francs from Charles Roethlisberger, a partner of Auguste Jean.

_

Large tapered pear-shaped vase with three legs, made of translucent metallic smoked glass tinted ruby red, with three sides separated by undulating "ribs" worked hot with tongs, as is the neck, which is also stretched with tongs along with the drips flowing from it. The body features a rich polychrome enameled and gilded decoration of Far Eastern inspiration, characterized by floral compositions and ribbons supporting geometric motifs evoking traditional Japanese textiles.

Several other vases of this shape are known in Auguste Jean’s production, but this one stands out for its dimensions and the quality of its painted, enameled, and gilded decoration. Its acquisition in 1881, during Auguste Jean’s lifetime, directly from his partner for the collections of the Musée des Arts et Métiers (CNAM), highlights the interest shown in this creation from the moment it was made.

Condition: Good condition.

Signature: Signed on the base in enamel "A Jean", as well as with a hot-applied glass cabochon "Jean".
