Cream-coloured glazed stoneware scroll vase with polychrome decoration applied in high relief. The composition combines a butterfly, a maple leaf with finely modelled veins and delicate flowers, as well as a half-open fan serving as a support for a landscape dotted with traditional dwellings, evoking the world of Japanese prints.
A rare testimony to Auguste Jean's late stoneware productions, at a time when the artist was mainly working with enamelled earthenware, this vase illustrates his keen interest in the arts of the Far East.
Condition: Good state of preservation.
Signature: Signed in intaglio, below the piece: "A Jean".
