Fluted vase in porcelain, with a cracked glaze, fitted with two comma-shaped side handles. This vase evokes Chinese ceramics, whose forms and material effects saw a considerable resurgence of interest in France from the second half of the 19th century onwards.
This work belongs to a particularly little-known production by Auguste Jean. Based in Vierzon, the artist created several porcelain pieces bearing the signature "NP/V". Several pieces of similar form were given by Auguste Jean to the administrator and curator of the Manufacture de Sèvres, or acquired by them after their visit to the artist's workshops in 1892 as part of a study trip, as evidenced by several articles published in the specialized press.
This vase is thus a particularly valuable testimony to Auguste Jean's late research.
Condition: A crack on a handle.
Signature: Signed on the reverse, under the base: "NP/V.".
