Very large vase in polychrome glazed earthenware, resting on a fluted pedestal with a deep blue glaze. The belly is adorned with a painted decoration depicting a young triton, or sea cherub, riding a dolphin amidst the waves and holding a trident. The tall neck is enlivened by a cherub in high relief clinging to a garland of fruit. The whole thus combines painted decoration and sculpted relief elements.

Dismantlable into three parts - pedestal, belly and neck - it is to date the largest known and preserved vase by Auguste Jean.

Condition: Good condition.

Signature: Signed at the base, in blue enamel: "Jean AJ".
