Shortly before or in 1881, acquired by the Musée des Arts et Métiers for 70 francs from Charles Roethlisberger, a partner of Auguste Jean.

_

Very large cornucopia vase, over 60 cm in height, in translucent smoky brown glass, resting on a tripod base in blue glass, hot-worked and applied. From the widely flared neck, several elements in the shape of “tears” or water droplets, also hot-worked, unfold.

The piece is distinguished by the absence of painted enamel decoration, favoring a remarkable hot-worked two-tone glass technique. The overall effect gives the piece a deeply organic and sculptural character.

With its exceptional dimensions, the absence of any painted decoration, and the freedom of execution in its hot-worked ornamentation, this vase testifies to a particularly bold and modern approach for the time. Its acquisition in 1881, along with another similar cornucopia vase in ruby red, during Auguste Jean's lifetime and directly from his partner for the collections of the Musée des Arts et Métiers (CNAM), underscores the interest shown in this creation as soon as it was made.
