Double salt cellar in glazed earthenware, decorated with two stylized dolphins sculpted in the round, whose intertwined bodies support two bowls. The whole rests on a circular foot . The piece is distinguished by its palette of deep blues, enhanced with shades of yellow and brown, characteristic of Auguste Jean's chromatic repertoire. Through its marine and mythological decoration and sculptural composition, this work is part of the Neo-Renaissance taste, representative of the production of the ceramicist in the 1860s-1870s.

Although intended for everyday use, this double salt cellar is executed with the same care as Auguste Jean's most ambitious works, whose production includes not only torchères and lighting fixtures, monumental fountains, busts, vases and cups, basins and planters, clocks and wall tiles for fireplaces or bathrooms, but also utilitarian objects.

Condition: Good condition despite a few chips.

Signature: Signed under the piece, blue enamel: "Jean AJ".
