Large letter rack in enameled earthenware, adorned with a blue and white camaieu decoration in the Delft style. The main scene depicts a musician playing the bagpipes, sitting in the grass at the feet of a lady carrying a basket. In the background unfolds a rural landscape animated by a windmill. The upper/inner part of the letter rack is decorated with a lakeside landscape.

A rare example of Auguste Jean's earthenware with blue and white decoration in the Delft style, this work is all the more interesting as few letter racks by the artist have survived. It also constitutes a particularly late testimony of his ceramic production, as it was created in Vierzon, where Auguste Jean worked during the final years of his life.

Condition: Some losses and traces of restoration.

Signature: Signed on the side, blue enamel: "JA V".
