Pair of "bottle" vases in enameled earthenware with a deep blue glaze, adorned with rich polychrome painted decoration. On each of the main faces, a medallion features a classical three-quarter portrait of a woman against a yellow background punctuated with small crosses. The medallions are framed by foliage scrolls and topped with a crowned escutcheon, the identification of which is yet to be determined. The vases have three small angular handles and a flared neck.
With their blue glaze, the richness of their polychrome decoration, and their Renaissance-inspired ornamental vocabulary, these vases are a particularly representative testament to the production that contributed to Auguste Jean's renown.
Condition: Some gaps and traces of restoration.
Signature: Signed on the reverse, beneath the vases, in blue enamel: "AJ Jean".
