Pair of baluster-shaped, tripod vases in enameled earthenware, covered with an intense red glaze. Their tripod base, with supple and organic forms evoking branches or roots, seems to embrace and suspend the vases like a gilded bronze mount. The surface of the vases is enlivened by extensive high-relief work. On the bellies, leafy and flowered branches unfold, upon which several modeled birds in relief are placed, covered with a finely crackled light beige-brown enamel. Small relief droplets also punctuate the neck.

A rare testament to a later production by Auguste Jean, this pair of vases stands out due to the unusual use of a red glaze and the prominence given to relief in the design of the decoration. The birds, treated in full round or high relief, introduce a resolutely sculptural dimension.

Condition: Damage, losses and significant chips. Previous restorations.

Signature: Signed below the piece "To Jean".
