Pair of vases on circular feet, in earthenware with a yellow glaze, equipped with two lateral vertical and angular blue handles, which correspond to the blue rim of the neck's edge, creating an extension. The main face of each vase is adorned with a large medallion with a spirited frame, composed of scrolls, feather motifs, and chimera heads. In its center, a female figure dressed in antique style is depicted in a dancing pose, playing a musical instrument. Executed in grisaille, the two allegorical figures are distinct from one another.

The bright yellow background highlights the finesse of the painted decoration and the contrast with the blue accents, which emphasize the architectural structure of the whole. Each vase rests on a gilt-bronze mount, forming a quadrangular base with cut corners.

Due to its yellow glaze, the finesse of its painted decoration, and its ornamental vocabulary, this pair constitutes a particularly interesting testament to the work of Auguste Jean, less known for his yellow-ground pieces than for his blue-glazed creations. Relatively rare in his oeuvre, the combination of earthenware and a gilt-bronze mount also constitutes a notable feature.

Condition: Good condition.

Signature: Signed on the reverse, under the pieces, blue enamel: "Jean".
