Chandelier with twelve arms, the central part of which consists of an enameled earthenware vase with a deep blue glaze, fitted with three small angular handles and a neck. The vase is adorned with rich polychrome painted decoration of neo-Renaissance inspiration, composed of circular medallions featuring female profiles, whose figures, dressed in Renaissance fashion, stand out against yellow backgrounds punctuated with small geometric and floral motifs. The medallions are framed by bands of leafy scrolls.
With the exception of the two earthenware lampshades known today, this chandelier is, to date, the only identified lighting fixture made by Auguste Jean. The presence of the signature, exceptionally placed inside the vase and not under its base, suggests that the vase was originally intended to be placed on a chandelier and not as an independent vase later adapted for this use.
Condition: Good condition.
Signature: Signed on the inside, in blue enamel: “Jean”.
