Flat-sided, quadruped jardinière, in translucent blown glass with purplish tones, whose base, "teardrops," and neck, hot-worked, display subtle metallic reflections. These applications give the material an organic character. The surface is adorned with a rich polychrome enamel decoration of Japonisme inspiration, combining flowering branches, ribbons, and cartouches of various shapes, sometimes circular, sometimes rectangular. These latter feature geometric motifs reminiscent of traditional Japanese textiles, as well as men dressed in the Japanese style—kimono, traditional hairstyle, and fan—and a scene depicting traditional Japanese architecture. These compositions seem to draw directly from the imagery of Japanese prints.
Several jardinières of comparable form are known today, of varying dimensions. However, they consistently differ in the color of the glass and the composition of their enameled decoration, making each example a unique work.
