Small, flattened, quadripod jardinière, in translucent amber glass. The base, lip, and the spectacular "tears" that emerge laterally from the body are hot-worked in blue glass. These applications, combined with metallic effects and gilded highlights, emphasize the organic and almost moving nature of the material.
The body is adorned with a rich polychrome enamel decoration of Japanese inspiration. On the main side, leafy and flowered branches frame several medallions, one of which, with a gold background, features a heron in flight. The other side presents an equally refined composition, combining polylobed medallions and cartouches in the shape of leaves, supporting floral motifs and a bird perched on a branch. This painted decoration once again demonstrates the influence of Japanese prints and the taste for Japonism that characterizes Auguste Jean's work.
Several jardinière-vases of comparable shape are known today, of varying dimensions. However, they are always distinguished by the color of the glass and the composition of their enameled decoration, making each example a unique work.
Condition: Good condition.
Signature: Signed on the reverse, under the piece, in red enamel.
