Small jardinière in polychrome enamelled earthenware, with two handles, featuring Neo-Renaissance decoration. The belly is adorned, on a blue background, with a satyr mask framed by chimeras, enhanced with foliage scrolls and polychrome ribbons. Resting on a tripod base, it has a fine yellow border highlighting the edge of the rim, while the interior is covered with a white enamel delicately speckled with pink.
This jardinière is a testament to Auguste Jean's most emblematic production. Beyond his signature, it brings together all the characteristics that made the artist famous: the deep blue background, a true trademark, the pictorial treatment of the polychrome enamels, the perfect mastery of decorative composition, as well as the attention to detail, both in the modeling of the tripod base and in the quality of the enamels.
Condition: Good condition, with some minor damage.
Signature: Signed "Jean AJ".
