Large tripod vase over 60 cm high, made of translucent blue blown glass. Its particularly slender tubular shape gradually narrows towards the top and leans slightly. The vase rests on three hot-worked feet, whose extensions develop into fine undulating ribs that rise along the body. At the base of the neck, long glass "tears" seem to flow onto the body, while numerous circular cabochons, evoking flowers or rosettes, are applied to the surface. These different elements give the vase a deeply organic character.
The piece is distinguished by the total absence of painted enamel decoration, which Auguste Jean frequently used in his glass production. The ornamental richness here relies exclusively on the free working of the material itself, which gives it a sculptural character.
Several vases of comparable shape are known, but they generally have more modest dimensions and combine hot-working with painted enamel decoration, sometimes enhanced with gilding.
Its acquisition by the Cognac museum in 1987 retrospectively highlights the remarkable and resolutely modern character of this object within 19th-century glass production.
Condition: Good condition
Signature: Signed on the reverse, under the belly: with a glass cabochon applied while hot.
