Covered bowl or dragée dish on a pedestal, in polychrome enamelled earthenware, the surface of which is entirely covered with rich painted decoration of neo-Renaissance inspiration, composed of medallions, arabesques, interlaces, lambrequins, mascarons, chimeras, and confronted dolphin heads. The palette, dominated by shades of blue, green, and yellow, as well as the profusion of ornamental motifs, directly evoke the decorative repertoire of Italian maiolicas from the Renaissance, largely reinterpreted in the 19th century.

Characteristic of Auguste Jean's work, this piece demonstrates his historicist taste for Renaissance arts and Italian maiolicas.

Condition: Good state of preservation. Some old restorations.

Signature: Signed on the reverse, under the base, in blue enamel: "AJ Jean".
