Tambourine-shaped flower holder in enameled earthenware, adorned with polychrome painted decoration. The gallant scene depicts a man courting a woman in a pastoral landscape.
Designed to hold and display bouquets or flower stems, the flower holder is both a functional and decorative object, created to contribute to interior ornamentation. This model was intended for wall mounting.
A rare testament to Auguste Jean's blue and white earthenware in the Delft style, this piece is all the more significant as only two flower holders by the artist are currently known. Furthermore, it serves as a particularly late example of his ceramic production, having been created in Vierzon, where Auguste Jean worked during the final years of his life.
Condition: Good condition.
Signature: Signed, blue enamel: "JA V"
