The trapezoidal body is decorated with a wide frieze of grapevines and interlacing, interrupted on the main face by a circular \u003cstrong\u003emedallion\u003c\/strong\u003e featuring a profile head wearing a Renaissance-style hairstyle. The entire decoration, rendered in a rich polychromy dominated by shades of blue, yellow, and green, is fully in keeping with the \u003cstrong\u003eNeo-Renaissance taste\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWith its deep blue glaze, the richness of its painted decoration, and the use of an ornamental vocabulary directly inspired by the Renaissance, this vase is a particularly \u003cstrong\u003erepresentative example of the production that contributed to the renown of Auguste Jean\u003c\/strong\u003e. Although relatively rare in his work, the presence of a gilt-bronze mount is a notable feature.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA vase of comparable shape and decoration is now held at the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.musee-orsay.fr\/fr\/oeuvres\/vase-anses-153891\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eMusée d’Orsay\u003c\/a\u003e, and several other similar examples are known.
