The base, lip, and the spectacular "tears" that emerge laterally from the body are hot-worked in blue glass. On the main side, leafy and flowered branches frame several medallions, one of which, with a gold background, features a heron in flight. The other side presents an equally refined composition, combining polylobed medallions and cartouches in the shape of leaves, supporting floral motifs and a bird perched on a branch. This painted decoration once again demonstrates the influence of Japanese prints and the taste for Japonism that characterizes Auguste Jean's work.

Several jardinière-vases of comparable shape are known today, of varying dimensions.
