The various elements are adorned with rich painted decoration of scrolling foliage and plant interlacings in a \u003cstrong\u003eNeo-Renaissance\u003c\/strong\u003e style. The sculpted figures, of high-quality execution, were created by a sculptor whose identity remains unknown.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA similar fountain was presented by Auguste Jean at the \u003cstrong\u003e1867 Paris World's Fair.\u003c\/strong\u003e Descriptions preserved in catalogues, archives, and the press allow this work to be associated with the one exhibited on that occasion, without, however, allowing it to be identified with certainty, as Auguste Jean produced several monumental fountains during his career, of which only two have survived to this day.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fountain is incomplete today, with at least one of its tiers having disappeared. It is nevertheless documented by several old \u003cstrong\u003ephotographs\u003c\/strong\u003e. It appears, notably, in the interior of the physician and hygienist \u003cstrong\u003eTitus Deville\u003c\/strong\u003e, at his home at 11 Parliament Street in \u003cstrong\u003eHarrogate\u003c\/strong\u003e, and subsequently after its donation to the \u003cstrong\u003eRoyal Baths of Harrogate\u003c\/strong\u003e, inaugurated in 1897.
