The \u003cstrong\u003eallegories\u003c\/strong\u003e of the seasons are identifiable by their attributes - flowers, foliage, fruits and ears of corn - as well as the zodiac signs that appear on the ribbons in the background. The figures, treated in profile and \u003cstrong\u003ein the antique style\u003c\/strong\u003e, stand out against a rich deep blue glaze.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe delicacy of the drawing, the quality of the modeling and the pictorial treatment of the figures relate this set to the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/usq0hzea54p7cmqw-104852554069.shopifypreview.com\/products\/vase-cornet-copie\"\u003eallegorical busts\u003c\/a\u003e of the seasons made by Auguste Jean during the same period. Through its iconography and decorative treatment, it is part of the 19th-century taste for the \u003cstrong\u003erediscovery of Italian majolica\u003c\/strong\u003e, without, however, seeking to faithfully reproduce ancient models.
